Over the last couple of years we have introduced the Harcourts Cooper & Co Sportsmanship Award which I present at 5 different prizegiving ceremonies. We introduced this trophy as no matter what we teach our kids, when it comes to sports, no matter which one they are involved in, teaching and commending great sportsmanship should always be right at the top of the list.
If our kids learn and embody the fundamentals of being a great sportsperson at a young age, and I don’t mean highly skilled and talented, just dedicated, committed and hardworking little humans that enjoy their sports, have fun, and always display great sportsmanship, then whether they carry on with sports later in life or not, they will undoubtedly become great people. And that’s the goal right!
On top of this, we give all junior players a free ice-cream at the end of their prize-giving, – which goes down a treat!
